This is the moment two teenage football stars in a kayak help out stranded motorists caught in a flash flood.

According to local media, heavy rainfall and flash floods have affected areas of Bulgaria, including the southern city of Plovdiv where 18-year-old Atanas Yankov and 17-year-old Mario Uskov ventured outside in a kayak for the “thrill” of it.

The teenagers, who both play for Bulgaria’s oldest existing football association club PFC Botev Plovdiv, initially went outside during the flood for fun, but soon encountered a motorist in need at a flooded underpass and ended up helping others.

They said that they made the video to send to their pals, but then realised that they were being filmed by other people as they helped others.

Atanas told local media: “We did it because of the thrill, but later, as the cars started to come [to the flooded underpass], we decided to help them.

“We could not leave them like that. I think everyone in our place would have helped.”

Mario said: “Some of them (cars) managed to get away and we helped the others. There was even a foreigner who we helped.”

Netizen ‘Iordan Dobrev’ commented: “The Masters of Plovdiv!”
‘Maria Ivanova’ said: “Bravo for the brave young men.”
