This is the shocking moment a teenage driver slides an out-of-control vehicle side-on into a lamppost and wrapping the motor around it folding the car in half.

The shocking crash took place in the upper middle-class residential area of Paschim Vihar in the northern Indian capital New Delhi when the three friends were coming home at around 5.40am.

The deceased occupant has been identified as 18-year-old Himanshu and his two friends, both hospitalised in a serious condition, are Sahib, 21, and Jayant, 18.

It is currently unclear which of the three men was driving the car at the time of the accident.

In the video footage, a white car is seen skidding along the road at speed as it approaches a lamppost side-on.

The car first hits the kerb and flips up, folding in the middle as it wraps around the lamppost.

A police spokesperson said: “The incident occurred around 5.40am at Jwala Heri Market junction. The injured were taken to hospital where Himanshu was also declared dead.”

Police deputy commissioner Seju P. Kuruvilla said that the driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a post and ended up on the roadside.

He also confirmed that an investigation into the accident is now underway.
