Teen Arrested For Shooting Dead Influencer Sister Who Defied Islamic Conventions By Wearing Crop Tops

Cops have arrested a Kurdish teenager for shooting dead his influencer sister, who defied conservative Islamic conventions by donning crop-tops and wearing a crucifix.

Police in the city of Kirkuk in Iraqi Kurdistan arrested the suspected killer, who is reportedly 17 years old and whose name they did not reveal.

He is suspected of having fired eight to nine bullets into his own sister, 20-year-old Eman Sami Maghdid, on a road in the city of Erbil, also located in the Kurdistan Region, late on Sunday, 6th March.

Eman, who also went by the names Mari and Maria, was a popular TikToker who boasted 47,000 followers on the social media platform before her death.

The cops who arrested her brother also arrested another person, whose identity was similarly undivulged, for giving him shelter.

The motive for the alleged crime has not been confirmed, but it is suspected that the victim’s brother may have murdered her to ‘protect’ their family’s ‘honour’.

This is because Eman often posted photos and videos of herself defying the conservative Islamic traditions prevalent in Iraqi Kurdish society to social media.

She could often be seen smoking cigarettes, expressing herself out loud or wearing crop tops or even a crucifix.

It is believed she had not converted from Islam to Christianity but merely wore the item as a fashion statement.

In an unknowingly foreboding post on Facebook in August last year, Eman had written: “I believe that humans will always suffer at the hands of other humans.”

Her untimely death follows those of at least 10 other women who have been killed in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region this year.
