A teacher has been suspended for hitting this young girl so hard it left her with a swollen and bleeding black eye because she was “a slow learner”.

The primary school teacher in question, who has not been named, has been suspended following the shocking incident at Jinshan Elementary School in Qingyunpu District in Nanchang, capital of East China’s Jiangxi Province.

The incident first came to light when members of the young girl’s family revealed the state of her left eye in distressing photos, which show her eye socket heavily bruised and bleeding in the white of her eye.

The girl’s age has not been given, but she is said to be a second-year pupil at the school, putting her age around eight.

According to the girl’s family, the teacher hit the girl to “educate” her, despite the child being a “slow learner” and “not so bright”.

They have also accused the primary school teacher of being “heavy-handed” in her discipline.

Qingyunpun education officials said in a statement on 28th April that the teacher had been suspended following the allegations, which are being investigated internally.

The girl is not believed to be in serious condition and has been seen by experts at both the Jiangxi Provincial Hospital of the Armed Police Force, and the Affiliated Ophthalmology Hospital of Nanchang University.

Officials said the child would receive counselling and the primary school would also be investigated as part of the probe.

It has promised to “punish” the teacher in accordance with the results of the investigation.
