A tattoo artist has been left blind after his jealous ex attacked him with drain cleaner because she couldn’t stand him touching other women’s bodies.
The pair had reportedly broken up because of her obsession with him tattooing female clients’ boobs and bums.
When they parted four months ago, she told him she “prayed to God” he would go blind.
Then ink artist, Leandro Coelho Marques, was confronted by his ex as he left a gym in the city of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil on 22nd February.
His 41-year-old ex – named as Sonia Obelar Gregor – confronted him about their break-up.
Then, without warning, she threw a jug of nearly three pints of caustic soda into his face.
Leandro, 30, tried to flee by motorbike, but his sight failed after a few yards and he fell.
He lay in agony on the tarmac with his helmet melting onto his face as passers-by tried to help him by dousing him with water until firefighters arrived.
He was hospitalised in a critical condition at Santa Casa de Campo Grande, where he remained at the time of reporting.
His attacker, meanwhile, fled the scene.
Leandro’s sister, Jaqueline, said in a video posted online: “The ophthalmologist has already confirmed that my brother will never see again.”
Civil Police in Campo Grande are investigating the case.
Leandro’s family believes his ex attacked him because she was unable to accept their relationship was over and his profession made her extremely jealous.
Jacqueline said: “My brother is a tattoo artist, that’s his profession, and we know that there’s no choice in where to tattoo a person.
“It’s the client who chooses, whether it’s the bum, breasts, or wherever.
“My brother broke up with her because she was sick with jealousy, to the point of breaking things inside the house, valuable things like the television and the drink dispenser.”
Investigation head Felipe Madeira told local media: “Leandro commented that his ex-partner was very jealous, excessively jealous of his clients.
“The guy said that his ex even used to stalk clients who were tattooed by Leandro.
“When they ended the relationship, the woman said she was ‘praying to God that he would go blind’.”
Madeira added: “Leandro commented that the substance acted very quickly.
“The victim said that the suspect arrived with a 1.5-litre (2.6-pint) jug of corrosive liquid and threw it in his face.
“As soon as the suspect threw it, Leandro stopped seeing and his skin started burning.
“At this moment, the victim seems to be stable, but he is truly blind.
“Leandro said that he can’t distinguish shapes, see people’s faces, and only has a visual perception of shadows.”
Police continue to search for the suspect, who is accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
