This is the moment a bear named Tasha uses her long and sticky tongue to extract honey from a tree.
This cute scene took place in Black Pine Animal Sanctuary (BPAS) in the town of Albion and Jefferson townships, in Noble County, in the U.S state of Indiana.
The video published by BPAS on Facebook shows 19-year-old Tasha feasting on honey like there’s no tomorrow.
She licks the honey placed in a tree, mimicking the way it would be found in the wild with her long and sticky tongue.
Letrecia “Trish” Nichols, Executive Director of Black Pine Animal Sanctuary said to Clipzilla that Tasha was originally kept by a private owner in Ohio until she was transferred to Great Cats of Indiana at 6 months old.
She came to Black Pine Animal Sanctuary in 2011 from Great Cats in the midst of multiple violations of animal welfare regulations.
Upon her arrival, she was unhealthy and underweight.
Once at BPAS, Trish recalls that she didn’t stop eating. She would eat all day long, becoming destructive if not fed enough.
She did not hibernate her first winter in Black Pine Sanctuary because she did not have enough fat reserves built up.
Trish says that they strive to encourage their animals to participate in activities that mirror the behaviors they would experience in the wild.
So when they have the resources, like honey, they provide it to the bears.
