Tank Truck Carrying Gas Explodes On Motorway Killing 14 People

This is the moment a tank truck explodes after suffering an accident on a motorway killing 14 people.

The accident occurred on the Tepic-Guadalajara motorway at the 106+000 km located in the Mexican state of Nayarit yesterday (Monday).

It involved a tank truck carrying liquified petroleum gas and a further three vehicles, each of which had victims inside.

Two compact cars were found with three victims each and a suburban vehicle was also found carrying six victims.

Another victim was found on the asphalt who authorities believe was one of the tank truck drivers and the Nayarit Attorney General’s Office issued a statement confirming the total number of victims stands at 14 earlier today (Tuesday).

One of the videos shows the moment a blaze engulfs a vehicle on the motorway leading to a large explosion which causes a mushroom cloud.

Another video shows several bystanders running to the black smoke apparently excited to see what happened when they are surprised by the blast which leads them to turn around and run in the opposite direction.

A third and final video shows the moment of the explosion from a different angle and the ensuing mushroom cloud.

All of the victims from the accident will have to be identified through DNA testing given the extensive damage caused to their bodies from the blast.

According to the local press, preliminary investigations show the tank truck lost control at some point of the accident and fell on its side which lead to the explosion however the events leading up to the accident remain unclear.

The investigation is ongoing.
