Pic shows: German car driver who blindly followed the orders of his sat nav without questioning where he was going ended up stuck in the snow. By Koen Berghuis A driver blindly following his sat nav’s instructions ended up stuck on a ski slope. The German motorist made the blunder in Krimml, a town in the Pinzgau region of Austria. He was on his way to his hotel in the higher part of the town, but his satnav guided him over an alpine walking path instead of roads. Krimml’s fire and rescue service got an unusual phone call at around 9.30pm that a car was stranded in the snow near a cable car station on the ski slopes. Fire brigade commander Robert Mair said it took 13 firefighters to pull the stranded car from the snow with a cable winch. The operation took about an hour and a half. Mr Mair added: "He went on despite a sign banning vehicles." Local media reported that the unnamed German driver was not the first to make that type of mistake. Just over a month ago, a 72-year-old German tourist in Zell am See was misled by his sat nav into driving onto a steep mountain slope. It took a speciality ski patrol to bring the driver and his three passengers back into the valley. The local fire brigade of Zell am See later managed to recover the car. (ends)

Pic shows: The crashed cable car in the Hochzillertal ski area These are the startling images taken after five cable cars at a ski lift smashed into each other high above a ski slope due to high winds. The bizarre accident happened yesterday [Sunday] at a ski lift in Hochzillertal, one of the most important skiing areas in the mountainous Austrian state of Tyrol. The cable cars of the "Wimbach Express" smashed into each other at one of the pillars near the town of Kaltenbach. The operation of the cable car had already been temporarily discontinued due to strong winds in the morning The gondolas were in the process of being retracted by the cable car operators when one gondola got entangled at one of the pillars. As a result, four other gondolas smashed into the stuck gondola, creating a mass pileup. When operators saw the accident, they immediately stopped the circulation of the cable cars, preventing an even bigger pileup. As no passengers were on board, nobody was injured in the accident. The exact damage done in the accident is currently unknown and it is not known when the cable car will be operational again. According to a spokesman from Hochzillertal Cable Cars, the authorities are currently investigating the accident. The "Wimbach Express" cable car is only one year old and is designed to transport up to 2,620 passengers per hour up to the ski slopes.
