Murat Ozdemir was detained in his home in the Ortakoy district of the Turkish city of Istanbul after posting the bizarre video on soical media. In the clip, Ozdemir can be seen holding a white parrot tightly around its neck as it screeches for air. The failed Masterchef contestant then swears at the camera and at the bird as it continues its hoarse screeching. After his arrest the bird was found in his home with a broken leg and has since been transferred to the Istanbul Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry where it will receive medical treatment. Ozdemir, 43, was charged with domestic violence, using illegal drugs and three other crimes. Bekir Pakdemirli, Turkey’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, said he had asked for a criminal complaint to be filed after he watched the video. It is unclear if Ozdemir has been released since being charged.
