Pic shows: A Twitter post of the van next to the tree that prevented it from falling down This is the incredible moment a motorist cheats death thanks to a tree which prevents him from shooting off a 1,000-foot-high cliff on a sharp mountain bend. The man was driving his small lorry around a corner on a mountain road in the Spanish Canary Island of Gran Canaria at speed when the vehicle apparently flipped over. Dashcam footage filmed by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction shows the lorry overturn and appear to begin to roll over the top of the roadside crash barrier. But the vehicle was reportedly prevented from going over the top - and plummeting down a 300-metre (984-foot) cliff - by a roadside tree, as this picture shows. A police spokesman said the driver escaped without a scratch following the incident near the town of Valsequillo de Gran Canaria on the eastern side of the island. An ambulance was called to the scene but the man declined to be taken to hospital for a check-up, he added. Netizen ‘Loli Castellano Santiago’ said: "That tree saved his life", while ‘Dara Judith Ramirez Rodriguez’ added: "The driver has a guardian angel! Thanks to the tree."
