This is the moment a Moroccan former taekwondo champion throws his gold medal into the ocean as he migrates to Spain on a boat and yells “it is good for nothing!”

Moroccan taekwondo champion Anouar Boukharsa illegally migrated to the Spanish island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands located off the coast of Morocco in north-western Africa.

Local media report the medal Boukharsa threw was the one he received when he won the Moroccan Throne Cup in the Men’s -63 kilogrammes class however it is unclear what year he won it.

The video shows the moment Boukharsa displays the medal to the camera and then tosses it into the ocean as he is seen sitting in a boat next another man as several other people can be heard speaking in the background.

Boukharsa is heard yelling: “It is good for nothing!” as he throws the medal into the water and then salutes the camera.

Once Boukharsa arrived on the Spanish island he spoke with local media and said: “The trip was very difficult and one where we saw death with our own eyes.”

Boukharsa said the journey lasted four days as he sailed in a boat with around 30 other people on board coming from the Safi region in western Morocco.

The former champion says he felt “oppressed” in his country and his sports career “has no value” but he might try to continue the sport in Spain.
