Swiss Doctor Refuses To Treat Russian HIV Patients Because Of Putins Invasion Of Ukraine

A Swiss doctor has refused to treat a homosexual Russian man with HIV over Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

The doctor, who has not been named, reportedly works at the Hirslanden Clinic in Zurich and they confirmed that an unnamed doctor had decided not to treat people from Russia.

The Russian man, who has also not been named but who is said to be 50, is reportedly not welcome in Russia due to his HIV status and due to the fact that he is a homosexual, as Russia has very homophobic laws in place currently.

Swiss media report that the Russian man has been receiving treatment in Switzerland for over five years so as to avoid being listed on the Russian national health database as an HIV patient.

This week, the Russian man reportedly asked the doctor for an appointment and for his prescription to be renewed, as he reportedly had done on a regular basis.

But the doctor has reportedly refused to treat him beyond this latest appointment and now he has to find a new doctor. Modern HIV therapy is reportedly not available in Moscow, according to Swiss media, and neither are the best drugs to fight the virus.

A spokesperson for the clinic told Swiss media: “For personal reasons, our valued partner doctor has decided not to treat any patients living in Russia during the ongoing war, regardless of the case mentioned.”

But the spokesperson person adding that the doctor would “obviously” treat patients in “acute health danger” and “regardless of origin, gender and nationality”.

Russia has been targeted by crippling sanctions since it invaded its neighbour Ukraine on Thursday 24th February. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly urged NATO to impose a no-fly zone over his country as Russian forces continue to target civilians.

He has also stressed that he is not interested in fighting the Russian people and said that the focus of his efforts and those of the Russian people should be focused on “dictator” Putin, as he has been referred to by US President Joe Biden, United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson, an chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov.

A ceasefire between Ukrainian and Russian forces that was agreed on Saturday lasted a reported 45 minutes before Russian forces started firing missiles at civilians, forcing them to turn back. An unconfirmed number of civilians were killed in the city of Irpin yesterday, Sunday, while trying to flee.
