According to the press release obtained by Newsflash, the British woman was found dead in her home where she lived alone by a friend on 18th November 2019.

The friend called the Civil Guard after finding the pensioner’s body with signs of having suffered violence.

The press statement said few clues were found at the scene and there was no sign of forced entry.

After months of investigation, the authorities began to follow a hypothesis that the suspect was known by the victim and the Dutch man was then arrested on 9th January 2020 in the nearby town of Crevillente.

The Spanish man was arrested on 16th January and the press release says one of the men knew the victim well.

They are alleged to have gone to the victim’s home as they knew she kept cash inside and would open the door to them.

They reportedly stole 600 EUR (539 GBP) and as they were leaving one of them is alleged to have hit the victim in the chest, causing her death.

The press statement says the men eventually confessed to the crime during questioning and they have now both been charged with homicide and violent robbery.

They have been placed in preventative prison by the judge in charge of the case.

The investigation was kept secret until it recently finished with a reconstruction of the events.
