This is the moment a female cop hits a suspect on the ground on the back of his head with the butt of her rifle and appears to cause a bloody gash.

The incident was filmed at the Hospital Mi Pueblo in the city of Florencio Varela in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires after three unnamed men, aged 45, 35 and 21, started a fight in the hospital.

According to local media, initial reports indicated that one of the suspects bit and assaulted two officers who arrived on the scene and the men were accused of resisting arrest.

However, video footage of the incident was widely shared on social media several hours later and a female police office, identified as Carla Lopez, is seen hitting one of the men while he was on the ground.

In the footage, Lopez appears to whack the suspect on the back of his head with the butt of her rifle.

She is then seen taking the weapon to a patrol car in front of shocked eyewitnesses.

When she returns to the hospital, a pool of blood is seen on the floor next to the suspect before the dazed and bloodied man is led out of the hospital by cops.

According to local media, the female officer is currently under investigation for mistreating a suspect under arrest.
