A baby has swallowed over 117 magnetic balls that were successfully removed from the toddler’s stomach by skilled surgeons.

At the time of the accident, the mother had briefly left her baby boy playing with his magnetic constructor toy set under the older sister’s supervision in the Russian capital Moscow.

The mother was alarmed when she began collecting the toys and noticed that half of the pieces of the constructor set were missing.

The worried parents immediately called an ambulance, and the paramedics decided to examine both children in the hospital.

After an x-ray medical examination, doctors found nothing suspicious in the girl’s body, but the one-year-old brother had a big lump of metal parts gathered together in his stomach.

The toddler had swallowed more than a hundred balls of the magnetic constructor unnoticed by the sister, and he was urgently taken to the operating room.

According to the Moscow Department of Health, 117 magnetic balls were surgically removed from the toddler’s stomach by the doctors of Speransky Children’s Hospital.

The head of the purulent surgery department, Nodari Zurbaev, explained that the balls were attracted to each other, forming a larger shape but did not have time to disrupt the stomach’s functions.

The foreign objects were successfully removed from the toddler’s body, and he is reportedly in good condition and recovering well.

Specialists of the Speransky Children’s Hospital strongly advise parents not to allow young children to play with small objects without adult supervision as the consequences can be severe.

In a separate incident a three-year-old boy almost died after he swallowed eight magnetic beads that left shotgun-like holes in his intestine as they attempted to join up with each other near Nanning City in the south Chinese region of Guangxi in January.

The child had swallowed the beads at least two or three days before the parents noticed and due to untimely intervention they had caused intestinal necrosis and perforation.
