SUPERMARKET SWEEP: Unattended Trolley Rolls Down Escalator And Takes Out Two Shoppers

This is the moment a supermarket worker leaves a stacked trolley unattended before it rolls onto the escalator and flattens two unsuspecting shoppers.

The incident was filmed at a Sheng Siong supermarket on Canberra Street in the island city-state of Singapore and the footage has gone viral on TikTok with 3.4 million views this week.

In the video, a supermarket worker is seen removing two boxes from the trolley before repositioning the remaining items and leaving it unattended for a moment.

In that time, the trolley slowly rolls forwards onto the escalator just as a shopper travels down to the next floor.

The trolley gathers speed on the incline and bashes into the shopper, sending her crashing to the floor, before whizzing down to the bottom and taking out another unsuspecting customer.

Meanwhile, the supermarket worker dashes down the escalator to try to stop the runaway trolley from hitting any more shoppers.

It is unclear what happened to both customers after the incident.

A Sheng Siong spokesperson told local media that the incident took place in February this year. The timestamp on the video says 3.50pm on 25th February.

The supermarket chain vowed to take “necessary measures” to prevent such incidents from taking place in the future.

The spokesperson said: “Our store personnel had immediately apologised and extended assistance to the two customers.

“The health and safety of our customers is of utmost importance to us.

“We will learn from the incident and take necessary measures to prevent such incidents.”
