A Russian stylist has been slammed after using orphans in a magazine photoshoot for a luxury jewellery brand.

Stylist Karolina Pavlovskaya is in hot water after working on the photoshoot for jewellery brand Mineral Weather to be published in the Wonderzine magazine.

Local media report that the children who participated in the shoot are from an orphanage located in the capital city of Moscow, and in the behind-the-scenes photos one girl can be seen having her face seemingly being pulled into a smile.

In other images, the children can be seen modelling rings and other jewellery with their faces sporting paint and other decorations.

Shortly after the photos were published, the magazine’s management decided to take it down as it was starting to receive hefty criticism.

Representatives from the magazine said: “We believe that representatives of the brand had good intentions of helping children. But the photoshoot doesn’t go about orphans’ socialisation too delicately and our publication was a mistake.”

Pavlovskaya tried explaining her choices for the photoshoot, saying: “My mother and grandmother spent their entire lives raising children, as they’ve had a family orphanage for more than 20 years.”

Pavlovskaya noted that all the children from the photo shot were originally taken from various orphanages but now live in her family-run orphanage.

The stylist explained that every couple of years she stages a photoshoot for the orphaned children and said with her latest work she wanted to compare the children with the unusual jewellery of Mineral Weather.

The stylist underlined that the photoshoot was artsy rather than commercial.
