A newly-opened Dutch restaurant has got customers in a spin after the owners bought a huge Ferris wheel and set it up to ensure perfect social distancing for diners.

The Ferris restaurant will open up this month in the city of Den Bosch, the capital of the Dutch province of North Brabant.

The historical city is a popular tourist attraction with its fortified city centre and ancient buildings through to the modern Bolwoningen complex, an array of 50 spherical houses designed by Dries Kreijkamp.

However, social distancing restrictions threatened to put a damper on the restaurant business, yet there is little problem keeping the Ferris wheel pods apart.

The venue has 35 tables available for visitors to enjoy the scenery at the Pettelaarse Schans or Fort Saint Michel, a fortress south of the city.

The project creators include John van Vroenhoven and Bram Verleg of Foodtastic who say they are offering breakfast, lunch and dinner options for clients.

John said: “The wheel is divided into sections. We can operate five pods per stop. We serve them one-by-one, as if they were tables.”

Verleg came up the idea this year when his company shutdown and he contacted the local council to get their approval. A day after approval, they were already in contact with the Ferris wheel provider.

The wheel has also been equipped with 1 VIP pod with leather seats and the package includes two hours of spinning around as well as oysters and champagne for a price of 193 EUR (173 GBP).

However, it will not be open indefinitely and diners will need to get their bookings in before August when the Ferris wheel restaurant closes.

Two-star Michelin chef Soenil Bahadoer will be carrying out the cooking on the evening of 17th July.
