This stunning Instagram model has died after spending five days in hospital fighting for her life after she was shot in the face as she got in a taxi to leave a party.

Raila Sales Ferreira, 20, was shot in the face by an unidentified assailant in the city of Manaus in the northern Brazilian state of Amazonas in the early hours of Wednesday, 18th August.

Emergency service workers arrived on the scene and found that despite the model’s horrific injuries and the fact she had passed out, she was still alive.

She was taken to the intensive care unit of the Joao Lucio Hospital and Emergency Room, where she spent five days fighting for her life before succumbing to her injuries at midday yesterday (Monday, 23rd August).

Local news site D24am reports that the Instagram model was shot in the face moments after she got into a taxi she had ordered on an app after leaving a party.

Photos taken in the aftermath of the shooting show how the glass window of the taxi’s back door was left completely shattered.

The post-mortem on Raila’s body gave her cause of death as cerebral oedema (excess accumulation of fluid in the intracellular or extracellular spaces of the brain), cranial haemorrhage and cranial trauma caused by the gunshot.

The police have registered the case as homicide and they are currently investigating. At the time of reporting, the identity of the suspect or suspects and the motive for the crime were still unknown.
