Local media identified the last suspect as Laura Mojica Romero, 25, who won the Miss Oaxaca 2018 beauty contest and was known locally for her modelling and pageant performances, but there have been no official reports confirming the claim.

The stunning model is suspected of belonging to a criminal organisation which specialises in carrying out kidnappings in the states of Oaxaca and Veracruz along with the seven other suspects.

They remain in custody as a judge in Veracruz gave the prosecution two months to conclude their investigations. If convicted, they could each face up to 50 years behind bars.
