This is the moment a teenage student pulls out a gun and points it at his teacher remains unaware as he explains lessons on the board.

The incident took place in the school Emaus of El Palomar, in Buenos Aires, eastern Argentina and local media report four students aged 17 have now been sanctioned and will not be allowed into the school in 2020.

In the video recorded by students in the class, the teacher can be seen writing on the board with four male students standing up.

The teacher, named in reports as Eduardo Seco, has his back turned to the class when one of the students pulls out a pistol and points it at the teacher without Seco realising.

The scene was captured in July but the video has only recently been published recently by local media.

Local media report it was shared on WhatsApp when it reached a father who reported the incident to the school.

Education inspector Cecilia Barton said the student had handed in the gun in the video and it was a replica. However, Rafael Matozzo, the legal representative of the school, claimed that “I do not know if what they brought me was the same one that was used”.

The authorities are investigating the case and it is unclear if they have confirmed the gun in the video was a replica.

Matozzo said a council of coexistence done by parents, students and teachers were involved in investigating the case when the video emerged. They considered the incident a “serious fault” and the students will be allowed to continue their studies this year but will not be allowed to return to the school in 2020.

The students reportedly said that they did it as a joke but they did not want to make the teacher feel uncomfortable.

Education inspector Barton said the students apologised to the teacher with a letter and in person.

Teacher Seco has reportedly been teaching in the school for over 20 years. Matozzo said the teacher did not want to see the video at first but “we convinced him and he was shocked”.

He added that the teacher did not have any problems with the students in the video.

Police sources said to local media that Seco did not want to report the case to the police. But after the video was shared by local media, the police started an investigation and prosecutor Gabriel Nicolas Iturri is in charge of the investigation.

The school authorities have now shared a press statement after the story was published by local media saying that “due to the footage shared recently by media inside a classroom months ago, we would like to inform the school community that the incident has already been dealt with by the institution, following the protocols of the current rules of the province of Buenos Aires, which means a sanction for the students involved in the case.”
