Student In UK Facing Death Penalty For Killing Parents

A Chinese man studying in the UK is facing execution after being deported back home from his hideout in Cambodia where he is wanted for killing his parents when they tried to stop him going back to Britain.

Huang Mouyang, 22, who had been studying in the UK before returning to China temporarily during the coronavirus pandemic, is suspected of having murdered his lawyer father and professor mother in a row about him continuing his studies abroad.

Cambodia News English said that Huang is believed to have wanted to return to studying abroad, but his parents disagreed, leading to him killing them in a fit of rage.

The couple were found dead in the dormitory of a school in the city of Nanning in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on 10th August, with the bodies having been there for some days.

Chinese investigators identified the couple’s son as a suspect and found that he had fled to Cambodia, and so began working with their Cambodian counterparts to locate him.

Mouyang was then arrested in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh on 17th August.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Mouyang had been studying in the UK. Due to the pandemic, he returned to China temporarily.

The suspect was deported on the China Southern Airlines flight CZ8314 from Phnom Penh to Guangzhou in China on 29th September.

He could face the death penalty if convicted.
