This is the moment passengers scream as a man grabs the steering wheel of a crowded, moving bus after getting on the wrong vehicle and demanding to be let off – almost causing a crash.

The suspect named as Mr Zhao was told by driver Mr Gu that he would need to wait until the next bus stop, but the impatient man reportedly refused to listen.

Footage from Baoying County in East China’s Jiangsu Province shows Mr Zhao conversing with the driver before suddenly lunging for the steering wheel.

The vehicle veers towards the traffic barriers in the centre of the thoroughfare, forcing Mr Gu to slam on the brakes to avoid a crash.

More than 20 passengers inside the crowded bus scream as they are jolted out of their seats, but fortunately none were injured during the incident.

Mr Gu said: “He suddenly grabbed the steering wheel. It was totally unexpected!

“I couldn’t turn the wheel back, so I had to brake.”

According to reports, Mr Zhao got on the vehicle, threw his fare in the coin box, and then realised he was on the wrong bus.

He requested to be let off right away and his bus fare returned, but Mr Gu explained he was not allowed to stop at unassigned locations.

He suggested Mr Zhao get off at the next stop, where he would also allow him to take another commuter’s fare to replace his coins.

Mr Zhao, however, lost his temper and nearly caused a crash with his stunt caught in full on CCTV.

He was later arrested and said while in custody: “I was angry and couldn’t control myself

“I regret it a lot now, but that was a rush of blood to the head.”

Mr Zhao is being held for endangering public safety. His punishment was not made public.
