This is the moment peacocks are seen walking the streets of Madrid as they search for food as everyone stays inside amid the coronavirus lockdown.

The footage was recorded in the streets around the ‘Retiro’ park in the centre of the Spanish capital of Madrid which is currently in lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Reports said the animals had left the park because they are starving as they are not being fed by the municipality workers or parkgoers.

The Spanish animalist political party PACMA wrote on social media: “Several cats have spent more than five days without eating. Peacocks are jumping the fences. An alarming situation in parks and colonies. They are also Madrid. We need answers.”

Reports said that the animal organisation ‘Asociacion de Amigos de Gatos del Retiro’ have also complained that stray cats which live in the neighbourhoods of the city centre have not been fed since the quarantine started.

PACMA has reportedly addressed the General Director of Animal Welfare of the Spanish government Sergio Garcia Torres and the Mayor of Madrid Jose Luis Martinez Almeida in a public statement asking them to solve this situation urgently.

Mayor Martinez-Almeida has said on social media that they will take measures to solve the problem.
