This is the moment a tornado spirals past a warehouse and sends dozens of workers scrambling for cover.

The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera at the warehouse of the company Milton Olguin & Cia Ltda located in the city of Talcahuano in the central Chilean region of Bio Bio.

The workers all flee towards the entrance and appear to huddle together before the camera is obscured.

Reports said that the rapidly rotating column of air caused a power cut moments before it twisted past the warehouse.

It is unclear whether any workers were injured during the incident.

Another video shows two vehicles just about managing to outrun the tornado as it tears through a street outside the warehouse, sending materials and debris spiralling through the air.

According to local media, over 1,170 homes in the region of Bio Bio were affected by the devastating twister.

Meanwhile, many areas have reportedly been left without electricity.

The coastal city of Concepcion was most affected by the tornado, which are not common in the South American country, according to reports.

One 70-year-old resident, identified as Eddy Maldonado Adasme, was killed when a container crashed into the office where he worked.
