Shocking footage has emerged of an out-of-control SUV slamming into a group of scooter riders at high speed and sending them flying.

The accident happened in the city of Shanwei in South China’s Guangdong Province during rush-hour traffic on the morning of 13th January.

Authorities say two people have died during the crash and three others are injured, one of them critically.

The SUV driver, surnamed Guo, 21, has been detained for dangerous driving after police say his speeding vehicle crashed into four electric scooters.

CCTV images of the crash shows Guo’s car darting past much slower cars on the outside lane before slamming into the scooters.

The victims and their scooters are sent flying into the air during the deadly collision, which only stops after Guo slams into what appears to be a utility pole.

The front of his car raises into the air during impact and falls onto one of his victims, who is riding nearby, the video shows.

The police say the incident is still being investigated.

It is currently unclear how Guo lost control of his car, including whether he may have muddled the pedals beneath his feet and mistaken his accelerator for the brake.
