Cops in Germany have launched an appeal to find this man who allegedly stole a lorry and sped away but was then photographed after triggering a speed camera.

In Germany, speed cameras take images of the number plate from the front, so that they also capture a picture of the driver to settle any arguments about who was at the wheel at the time.

But when this image was captured and sent to the company that owned the lorry, they revealed it had been stolen and that the image must therefore be that of the thief making good his escape.

The theft was carried out in early October, when the man allegedly stole the DAF truck (type H4EN3 / XF 530 FT) from Flossafenstrasse in the German city of Worms, in the south-western state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The driver was then photographed on 5th October as he sped through the radar trap on the nearby Gernsheimer-Strasse with a local company now revealing that the picture was not any of their drivers.

Police in Worms have now published the image and appealed for members of the public who might recognise the suspected thief to get in touch.

Worms which is famous for its cathedral was the city where Martin Luther was declared a heretic, and today is famous as being the place where Liebfraumilch white wine originates from.
