This is the moment a speeding pickup truck driver hits a girl and sends her flying down the road before she comes to rest on the pavement motionless.

The shocking footage was caught on CCTV in the neighbourhood of Vila Mutirao in the city of Goiania in the Brazilian state of Goias on the afternoon of Sunday, 14th November.

Ana Beatriz Santana Lopes, aged 8, was sent flying some 20 metres (66 feet) down the road after being hit by the speeding pickup truck driver, according to local media outlets including G1.

The footage shows how the driver speeds off after hitting the girl, causing her to land on the pavement and come to rest apparently unconscious, without stopping to provide help.

The incident took place during Ana Beatriz’ grandma Leonice da Silva’s 62nd birthday celebrations. The youngster was crossing the road to greet cousins when the incident unfolded.

The footage shows how neighbours and relatives run over to Ana Beatriz after she is hit. Others tried to chase the speeding driver, but did not manage to catch up with him, according to G1.

The youngster’s cousin Pamela Bombonate believes the driver, who was not named in any reports, was on his way to a party and was drunk at the time.

The youngster’s mother reported that her daughter had undergone an operation on her leg and was breathing with the help of a device.

She remains in the Hospital de Urgencias Governador Otavio Lage de Siqueira, and her condition, as of Monday, 15th November, was described as serious but stable.
