This is the moment a wrong-way driver writes off his Audi when he speeds into the side of a turning lorry, crashes into five parked cars and fells a palm tree before landing upside down.

Property salesman Mr Li, 22, was on an errand but drove his Audi for just 1.2 miles when he collided with the light goods vehicle on Xiangjiang Road on the island of Hengqin, which is off the coast of Zhuhai in South China’s Guangdong Province.

Dashcam footage from Mr Li’s Audi A6L shows him speeding the wrong way down the thoroughfare when he attempts to overtake the small lorry, which begins turning left into a car park.

Mr Li is unable to brake in time and crashes into the side of the lorry before rear-ending a parked car and flipping onto his roof.

Zhuhai traffic police said Mr Li broke the trunk of a palm tree and damaged four more parked cars, bringing the vehicle count to seven including his own.

Fortunately, none of the drivers involved in the multi-car crash were seriously injured.

Mr Li, whose hands can be seen in the footage as the Audi lands on its roof, escaped with minor injuries too.

According to local authorities, Mr Li’s insurers said his Audi had been written off as it was beyond repair.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing, with Mr Li expected to be held fully liable.
