The horse slips and both the animal and the rider crash to the ground.

Onlooking troops rush in to calm the horse as the president and his wife look on with concern.

Acevedo can be seen hobbling away with the help of a colleague as the president and other spectators applaud him.

According to a press statement sent by the Head of the Mayor State of National Defence, General Homero Mendoza Ruiz, the soldier was taken to the Military Central Hospital in Mexico City.

The Secretary of National Defence (SEDENA) explained that the rider had tried to perform a“Parada India” (Indian Stop) as “the old Indian population of the American continent used horses for moving and hunting, capturing wild horses in herds by riding them and using the technique to make them stop.”

SEDENA added that the horse, called Tentacion, did not suffer any injuries in the incident.
