The climber, reportedly named as Feda Hussein, 26, from Portsmouth, was rescued in regular hiking gear despite the freezing temperatures on the morning of Sunday, 2nd October.

The British climber was reportedly rescued at a height of 3,100 metres (10,170 feet) on the Bionnassay glacier.

He was reportedly suffering from fatigue and possibly hypothermia.

Hussein, who has reportedly graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering from University, had already requested help on Saturday, according to local media, stating that he could not continue because it was too cold. He also reportedly had difficulty indicating his exact position.

Despite the alarm being raised at 5 PM on Saturday, it was not for the following morning that the hiker was rescued, by Italy’s Aosta Valley Mountain Rescue.

Italian media have reminded climbers that wearing the proper gear was important. The first rule for those who are preparing to tackle an excursion in the high mountains is to equip themselves with the appropriate equipment: not only suitable shoes, but also clothes suitable for the weather conditions that will be encountered.

Rescuers have reportedly said that he had attempted to cross a peak without the proper mountaineering equipment.
