This teenage mum smiling while she was on holiday in Majorca was given a pair of concrete boots before being thrown into a river to drown, according to police.

The young woman’s body was discovered in the Weser river at the end of last month near the German town of Nienburg in Lower Saxony.

She was found to have had the concrete slabs tied to her feet and a later post-mortem found she had been thrown in the river while she was still alive.

Her hands had been tied behind her back giving her no chance to free herself or to get to the surface.

A week later, detectives identified the victim as a 19-year-old German girl named only as Andrea K. because of local privacy laws. Her brother Gregor, 21, said he had been called to identify the body.

She had grown up in a home after her mother was jailed, and her father had died of leukaemia. After leaving the home she had become pregnant twice despite being only 19, and both of the children had been taken into care.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
