Singaporean Woman Nearly Swallows Centipede Lurking In Her Bubble Tea

A Singaporean woman has claimed that she nearly swallowed a two-centimetre-long centipede after sitting down to enjoy her bubble tea drink.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told local media the incident took place at the Cup Walker bubble tea store on Sengkang Square in the island city-state of Singapore on 15th December.

She said she bought a Caramel Milk Tea for SGD 3.30 (GBP 1.82) and sat down to enjoy it. However, on the third sip she noticed something unusual in her mouth that felt like a hair.

She spat out the object and quickly realised it was a centipede. Shocked at the incident, she confronted a staff member who offered to replace the drink with a new one, however she refused.

The worker reportedly apologised and told her that they failed to spot the two-centimetre-long centipede because it was too small.

The customer said she felt “disgusted and traumatised” by the incident, and vowed to never visit a Cup Walker store again.

She added that she has contacted the bubble tea company to alert them about the incident by email.

It is unclear is she has heard back from Cup Walker about the matter.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said they are aware of the incident and are investigating the store in question.

The SFA said: “Food safety is a joint responsibility. While SFA puts in place and enforces the regulatory measures, food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices.”
