A crazed gunman held a loaded pistol to his kidnapped ex’s head and pulled the trigger after she turned down his marriage proposal.

Obsessed Hayri Karaman, 48, even pulled the trigger as police moved in but astonishingly the gun misfired saving his ex’s life.

The drama unfolded when Karaman turned up with a gun at the Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.

After snatching his ex Gunay Erbay, 48 – a cleaner at the clinic – he held her hostage outside in the grounds while frantic colleagues called the police,

Officers told Karaman to drop the weapon, but he ignored their warnings and pulled the trigger while pointing the gun at Erbay’s head, according to local media.

However, the gun failed to go off and police officers were able to neutralise the suspect and place him under arrest.

After the ordeal, Erbay told the police that she was in a relationship with the suspect that ended when she declined his marriage proposal.

She alleged that he became forceful and started to constantly bother her, prompting her to file a complaint with the authorities.

Following his arrest, the suspect has been handed over to officials at the Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence Bureau along with his weapon.

The police confirmed that the gun, which failed to go off, was loaded at the time.

The investigation is ongoing.
