This is the moment bargain-hungry shoppers put the boot in as they fight over free shoes outside a shop in Mexico.

The footwear was being given away by the country’s shoemakers’ guild which donates shoes every year as part of its religious commitments.

But the giveaway got out of hand – in the city of Ticul, in the region of Yucatan, south-eastern Mexico -after a shoe shop worker put out a selection of freebies on the pavement outside.

Video footage of the bizarre punch-up shows that some experienced shoppers who were wearing helmets might have known what to expect.

The shoes disappear in seconds as customers push and shove each other out of the way.

Then a group of women begins a vicious brawl over what seems to be the last pair.

As one woman grips the box tightly, others try to rip it from her hands and at one point she looks set to bite one of her rivals.

Witnesses who filmed the fight can be heard laughing as they watch from inside the store.

The mob also contains a child and a pregnant woman who despite their physical conditions, do not walk away from the conflict.

After freeing herself from the greedy grabbers who were trying to take away the shoes, the winner reproaches her opponents and asks that order be restored.
