Fiorentina full-back Aleksa Terzic has revealed that kidnappers tried to bundle him into a car and “beat me with both their hands and feet” on his way back from a EURO 2020 qualifier.

Serbian star Aleksa Terzic, 20, says he was the victim of an attempted kidnapping yesterday (Wednesday) at three in the morning.

Terzic was reportedly driving to the Serbian capital Belgrade after playing a EURO qualifier with the Serbian U-21 team in a 2-0 loss to Russia in the city of Nis in southeastern Serbia.

Local media report the footballer was driving a BMW X3 when an Audi A6 drove up to his left-hand side and chased him until Terezic stopped after hitting another vehicle.

The assailants then reportedly beat him and tried to put him in the boot of the BMW but were unable to and Terzic was able to flee.

In a statement Terezic gave to police he said: “They beat me with both their hands and feet and tried to get me into the BMW but I managed to escape.”

An eyewitness said: “It looked like they were trying to get him in the boot of his vehicle, but he ran away and ran towards me.

“Other cars started to stop, a lot of people gathered. One of the men from the Audi returned to his car and another got into the young man’s BMW and drove away.”

Local media report Terzic claimed the thugs asked for 5,000 EUR (4,285 GBP) or they would kidnap him.

A woman and a man have reportedly been arrested while a search for a third suspect is underway. It is unclear if the suspects have been charged.

The 20-year-old defender was transferred to Fiorentina in this summer’s transfer window for a reported 1.5 million EUR (1.29 million GBP) after his start in Red Star Belgrade.

Terzic is reportedly now with his family and girlfriend Elena Cvoic.
