This is the shocking moment a toddler is filmed playing on the window ledge of a high-rise flat leading to several heart stopping moments as he moves around on the ledge before finally climbing back inside.

The heart-in-mouth incident was filmed in the district of Basaksehir in the Turkish city of Istanbul and shared on social media this week.

The video was filmed by a woman in an opposite building who gasped when the tot crawled on the window ledge to go back indoors.

According to the news site Haberler, the young boy sat on his own on the window ledge for several minutes.

It is unclear if anyone else was in the flat with him at the time of the incident.

In the footage, the boy is seen sitting close to the open window on the ledge, which is located several storeys up from the ground.

The camerawoman is heard explaining the situation to her family as they watch the toddler from across the street.

The boy then pulls back the curtains and shifts his little body to go back inside, at one point stretching his legs close to the edge and scaring the camerawoman.

She is heard gasping as the toddler slowly lowers himself back inside the flat.

It is unclear if the local authorities are aware of the video and investigating the family for apparently leaving the toddler alone for a long period of time.
