This is the moment a shark thrashes on the rocks next to a group of tourists whilst feeding on a shoal of sardines.

The startling scenes were recorded by tourist guide Carlos Dino in the Baia dos Porcos area of the Brazilian island of Fernando de Noronha.

The shark, the species of which has not been reported but reportedly measures nearly two metres (6.5 feet) in length, was said to be on the rocks to catch a shoal of sardines swimming there.

Dino told local media: “I was on top of the rock between Baia dos Porcos and Cacimba do Padres when I recorded it. The shoal of sardines was very big and the shark was feeding.”

In the video the shark can be seen thrashing on the rocks before returning to the sea. The clip then shows the huge numbers of sardines in the shallows as a group of tourists grab them from the sand.

The guide says that after returning to the sea the shark tried to return to the rocks but ended up eating the fish in the water.

Dino was accompanied by the group of tourists who he says managed to catch some of the sardines from the sand.

In 2001, UNESCO designated Fernando de Noronha as a World Heritage Site because of the importance of its environment.
