Serial Child Rapist Known As The Beast Hospitalised

This serial child rapist who allegedly murdered 132 of his victims and is known as ‘The Beast’ has been hospitalised.

Luis Alfredo Garavito was taken from the La Tramacua maximum-security prison to the emergency ward of the Rosario Pumarejo de Lopez Hospital n Valledupar, in the northern Colombian department of Cesar, under strict security measures.

Garavito, 63, had reportedly said he was feeling weak and fatigued before he was diagnosed with anaemia apparently caused by the conditions he is being kept in. Doctors have decided to keep him under observation in the hospital for the time being.

Local newspaper El Tiempo reported that the rapist’s health issues were caused by conditions in the La Tramacua prison, as he is living in a small cell and he is not allowed out to see the light.

Temperatures can reportedly reach 40 degrees Celsius in the prison.

Garavito was arrested on 22nd April 1999 and has been in the La Tramacua prison since then.

In 1999 he admitted to raping and torturing children and teenagers and he was convicted of murdering 138 of them. He faced charges pertaining to 172 minors, but 32 of the cases are still under investigation.

Based on maps of skeletons he has drawn during his prison time, the number of his victims could exceed 300, according to local media.

He was sentenced to a total of 1,853 years in prison, but his sentence was reduced to 22 years for collaboration and the prohibition of life imprisonment in Colombia.

He was imprisoned in 1999 and is scheduled for release next year, but prosecutors are still working on his charges.
