Reports said that he stabbed her 88 times in his car, including fatal wounds to her chest area which pierced her heart and lungs.

The victim also suffered defensive injuries while her shoe prints were found on the windscreen, suggesting that her death was painful and drawn out, according to investigators.

Local media said the defendant was sentenced to 30 years in prison last year but he has had his jail term reduced to 25 years following an appeal.

At the appeal hearing, the defendant said: “I never meant to take Kristina’s life. I don’t remember the whole event and afterwards, I did my best to help her.

“Now, nearly three years later, I find it increasingly difficult to cope with taking Kristina’s life, the girl I loved and who was everything to me.”

At the time of the murder, David was 19 years old and the victim was 18.

He reportedly attacked the victim when she told him that the relationship was over and that she was two-months pregnant with another man’s child.

Komsic was also sentenced to 14 months in prison for killing pedestrian Josip Kolaric, 72, with his car in 2016.
