A pair of pals have become social media stars after posting a selfie showing them bloodied but laughing after overturning their car in a crash.
Driver Nikolas Tonet, 19, had fallen asleep at the wheel while driving pal Lucas Gelain, 20, home from a party.
But instead of being horrified by the confession on Twitter on Monday, 4th April, social media fans loved it, giving the snap more than 166,000 ‘likes’.
Thankfully, computer engineering student Nickolas and management student Lucas suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
The car, however, was a complete write-off after it overturned on the ERS-122 main road in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul in the early hours.
The crash took place when the two young men were returning home from the party in late January.
Nickolas – who claims he had not been drinking – was behind the wheel at the time and dozed off, losing control.
Following the accident and relieved at having survived, the two young men took a selfie with the mangled 2001 white Corsa in the background.
Nickolas told Newsflash: “We were returning from a party and I fell asleep. I had not drunk alcohol. It happened in Flores da Cunha at the end of January.
“I needed three stitches and the rest were minor injuries. We didn’t go to hospital.”
Nickolas told Newsflash that he only posted the snap at a much later date because he updates his profile picture weekly and simply felt like using that photo at the time.
He said: “Everyone was surprised by the accident.”
Nickolas told local media: “When the accident happened, it took me a while to realise that we had really overturned, I thought it was just a hard crash.
“My friend asked me if I was okay, I said yes, I just had a little pain in my neck.
“But soon after getting out of the car we realised that the accident was very bad. We were lucky to only get hurt a little.
“But we were not desperate at any time, we were well aware of what had happened, but we were very calm.”
