A search is on for a 23-year-old mother who is accused of strangling her sick baby because she could no longer see him suffering during treatment, and then fleeing into a nearby forest.

Tatyana Filatova is suspected of killing her nine-month-old son Artiom after the pair returned from hospital where the tot was being treated for a non-life-threatening condition.

According to local media, Filatova’s husband Pavel, 28, called the police on 16th May after finding his son dead in his cot at their home in the city of Kolomna in the western Russian region of Moscow Oblast.

The authorities confirmed that the child had been strangled while his mother had disappeared, according to reports.

She left a message for Pavel that said: “I could not stand watching them put more injections into his little body.

“He cried and looked into my eyes as if asking me to do something, but I couldn’t.

“You are the best husband and father in the world. Sorry.”

According to the doctors who treated the boy, he had health issues but none that were considered life threatening.

The young patient and his mother were reportedly discharged when she said that her son was feeling better.

Local media said that Filatova ran into a nearby forest soon after her child’s death and the police are still trying to track her down.

The investigation is ongoing.
