This is the alleged killer who told a court how he joined a satanic cult before chopping off his siblings’ heads as a “sacrifice” to his “Satanic religion”.
David Mashao, 29, has pleaded guilty in the Johannesburg high court in the Gauteng province of South Africa to murdering his brother Sechaba, 28, and Barbara, 22, by cutting off their heads with a kitchen knife.
The murders came six years apart and he has now been handed two life sentences after pleading guilty to two counts of murder.
The killer said in his plea statement that his dead siblings were “against” his “Satanism beliefs,” adding that he planned their murders as a “sacrifice” to his “Satanic religion”.
Sechaba was found dead with his head missing close to Roodepoort train station in Johannesburg in 2012. An investigation was launched but Roodepoort’s magistrate’s court found there was not enough evidence in the case of the suspected murder to name a suspect.
Then in 2018 when the killer’s father Ruby was taken to hospital after a stroke he and his sister Barbara were left under the care of their uncle Miguel at the family home.
He said he then stabbed her and cut her head off after trying to convince her to become a satanist when their uncle was at work.
The killer’s father, who lives in the house where his daughter was murdered, said he is still “devastated” by his children’s murder.
