On a Twitter post Takelot tweeted: “The chance of bringing home gold! Congrats Bokke! As promised, we’re giving 346 shoppers a FULL REFUND on selected Samsung TVs!

The company said 346 shoppers had purchased just under 400 television sets that were worth around 4 million ZAR ( 244,000 GBP).

In an editorial in “The South African” journalist Tom Head wrote: “Well, a deal’s a deal at the end of the day. No good deed goes unpunished, and online retailer Takealot have paid a hefty prize for expressing their patriotism this weekend.”

However, the company earned online praise on social media for keeping its promise.
