Russias Richest Woman Gives Birth To Twins And Now Has 7 Kids As Well As USD 13 Billion

This is Russia’s richest woman and she has just given birth to twins which brings her total number of children to seven.

Tatyana Bakalchuk is said to be worth USD 13 billion and she is the CEO of Wildberries, Russia’s number one e-commerce platform.

Worth approximately USD 1.3 billion a year ago, her wealth has skyrocketed in the past year, growing 1,200 percent and making her by far the richest woman in the country, with second place going to Yelena Baturina, who is worth ‘just’ USD 1.3 billion, according to Russian news agency TASS.

Forbes reported this year that e-commerce platforms have seen tremendous growth during the ongoing global pandemic caused by the spread of the coronavirus, with Amazon, Walmart and Target benefiting most from the huge shift in consumer purchasing habits.

In Russia, it appears to be Bakalchuk who has been able to capitalise on the trend, even opening subsidies in Spain, Italy and France this year as it launches a global expansion push.

The company has also shown an interest in investing in small Russian banks in a bid to develop its own in-house payment system as it expands rapidly across Russia and around the world.

Life report that Bakalchuk, who was born in Moscow of Korean heritage, made the announcement of the birth herself at Forbes Women’s Day, which focused on gender equality in Russia.

A former teacher, the 45-year-old online business tycoon started her company in 2004 from her tiny Moscow apartment at the age of 28 while on maternity leave using her life savings of USD 700.

The combined wealth of her family puts them in first place in terms of the wealthiest families in the country, according to Russian media outlet Life. She currently ranks 347th on the list of richest people in the world, according to Bloomberg.

The Moscow Times reported on 21st September that Wildberries’ employees are outraged after a new internal payment system ushered in over the summer allegedly resulted in them losing out on large portions of their salaries, with staff saying they will only do the “minimum required by their contract until their demands are met”, however the company denied that its employees had gone on strike in a statement.

The company also denied that workers were being short-changed and said that, thanks to the new payment system, about 90 percent of workers actually made more money in August than before.
