This footage shows how Russian military medics are continuing to support patients at a COVID-19 hit hospital in Italy despite spiralling infections back home.

The footage was filmed in the city of Bergamo in the northern Italian region of Lombardy and was shared on social media by the Russian MoD.

In the video, the Russian military medics are seen arriving at the Italian hospital on a bus before changing from their uniforms into PPE.

The Russian experts are then seen treating COVID-19 patients before finishing at the end of the day and scrubbing up.

Alexander Yumanov, who leads the team of Russian military medics in Bergamo, said their job is very intense, but they are providing quality care to the affected patients.

The official said: “All Russian military specialists work towards achieving the best results. Our main role here is to help the patients and our Italian counterparts as much as possible.”

The Russian team is currently helping to take care of 41 patients, some who are still in intensive care.

Since the hospital started admitting COVID-19 patients, Russian and Italian doctors have helped to cure 29 patients who have since been discharged.

A total of 32 Russian military doctors and nurses are working at the Italian hospital in three shifts.

The footage was shared at the same time as it was revealed that ambulances in Moscow were lining up in huge queues because the hard-pressed hospitals were not able to process the patients quickly enough.
