The woman, whose name was not reported, is said to have come home to the unwelcome surprise after returning from the trip abroad.

The snake, believed to be a non-venomous eastern racer (Coluber constrictor), was slithering around her toilet as can be seen in these photos.

The woman called her son, who has not been named in reports, to help her and he, in turn, called experts to try to catch the snake.

However by the time the experts arrived at the scene the snake had reportedly slithered away.

It is believed that the snake is still somewhere in the residential building and it could appear in another resident’s flat.

Elena Kurlykova, from the Tula Regional Exotarium, said: “We left for the woman’s flat right away but the snake didn’t wait for us. It is likely that it slithered away once again. We hope that the residents who meet this snake next won’t be afraid of it and will try detaining it by covering with a cloth or a bucket.”

The eastern racer is endemic to North America and Central America. Their diet consists primarily of small rodents, frogs, toads, lizards, and other snakes. Local media speculated that it might be an escaped pet.
