A Russian teenager with eyes bigger than his belly has been hospitalised with a ruptured colon after overeating during the festive season.

The unnamed 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital in a serious condition after he massively overate during a visit to his nan’s house in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg on 25th December.

Svetlana Govyadina, who prepared the hearty meal, told Komsomolskaya Pravda that the feast included mashed potatoes with six large homemade meatballs.

A 14-year-old teen’s intestines were allegedly raptured after eating a grand meal in his grandmother’s house in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on 26th December 2021. (Newsflash)

She said that after the meal, he drank some tea and then went to his room to play on his phone.

The 62-year-old woman, who said the teen reported feeling severe stomach pain the next day, denied that the food she served was to blame, saying that it was not true that grandmothers are always trying to fatten up their grandsons.

She added: “I did not even cook all the meatballs, I left some in the freezer.”

Local media reported that the teen was rushed to the hospital by his mother, who works as a commercial business director, and doctors diagnosed him with a ruptured sigmoid colon (the last section of the bowel) on 26th December.

The grandma said she was upset and cried on the phone with the teen’s mother.

However, she said she was then calmed down by the boy’s mum when she told her: “He’s okay, he’s safe and sound.”

Though many can relate to overeating over the festive period, Russians, who are overwhelmingly Orthodox Christians and, as such, follow the Orthodox calendar, have their main Christmas dinner on 6th January.

The boy, however, is on a special light diet until then and will most likely not be enjoying it with the rest of his family.

The Juvenile Affairs Department is now reportedly dealing with the incident.
