Russian Rescue Dog With Four Prosthetic Legs To Start A New Life In London After Lying Crippled In Snow For Two Weeks

This rescue dog in Russia that has been fitted with four pathetic legs is set to start a new life in London after she was left with all four legs severed by an unknown person.

Rescue dog Monika was reportedly lying in the snow for two weeks without any of her limbs in the Krasnodar Krai region after the heartless attack.

Locals kept her alive by feeding her but had no way of helping her until she was collected by animal activists, and she has now been fitted with new legs at a clinic in Novosibirsk, which is a city in Siberia, in southern Russia.

She is now set to travel to London where she has been adopted by British animal rights activist Kasey Carlin of the Wild at Heart Foundation.

The operation to allow Monika to walk again was performed by vet Sergei Gorshkov, who said Monika was the first dog to benefit from his work.

The dog was able to be rescued despite vets originally saying that she should be put down after animal rights activists Marina Gapich and Alla Leonkina saved her, took care of her, and raised over RUB 700,000 (GBP 6,300) for her treatment.

Monika is said to be very sociable and has impressed her carers with how fast she has adapted to her new limbs.

After spending almost 6 months at the clinic undergoing rehabilitation, where she had to lose a lot of weight to be able to stand on the artificial paws she has been fitted with, she appears to be enjoying her new “shoes”.

The rehabilitation process took longer than expected because the first pair of limbs had to be replaced for unknown reasons.

And experts, although they have designed these new limbs to last a long time, have also made her a replacement set just in case.

Russian media say that Carlin has been preparing for six months to adopt Monika, studying the dog’s past and personality. The British orthopaedist Noel Fitzpatrick will be monitoring the dog once it is in the United Kingdom, still according to Russian media.

There was no detail as to who carried out the cruel attack, and why.
