Russian Man Blows Hand Off With Grenade As Cops Run for Cover

This is the shocking moment a Russian man blows himself up with a grenade as police officers run for cover.

The 39-year-old unidentified man with a grenade in his hand was walking in the courtyard of a residential building, threatening to blow himself up in the town of Spassk-Dalny in the Russian federal subject of Primorsky Krai on 9th May, according to local reports.

The security forces who came to the scene tried to calm the man and asked him to drop the grenade in his hand. The scene was caught on camera by an eyewitness. The video soon spread on Russian social media sites.

In the video, it can be seen that the police tried to persuade the man to drop the grenade in his hand.

The police can be heard shouting: “Why do you need that? Throw the grenade behind the garages. Throw the grenade away, and let’s go and talk about your backpack.”

During the conversation, the man took off his jacket and threw it on the ground, and then pulled the pin out of the grenade.

The police fled for cover, and after a couple of seconds, there was a bang as the grenade exploded in the man’s hands so loudly that the blast even set off a nearby car alarm.

After the deafening explosion, the man fell to the ground.

In the video, the police can be seen running towards the man and checking whether he is alive. Realising that the man is alive when he raises his head, the police can be heard shouting at others to call an ambulance.

According to the local news outlet REN TV, the seriously wounded man was hospitalised. The doctors managed to save his life, although the grenade exploded right in his hands.

It is not yet clear why the man set the grenade off and whether he was drunk. The press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia stated that an investigation into the incident had been initiated.
